WWE's second edition of the Payback pay-per-view is next up on the
calendar of major events, and it promises to be a very interesting show
indeed.
At the time of writing, we are unsure what the state of play will be with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, given how Daniel Bryan looks set for a lengthy absence due to neck surgery.
There will be openings all across the card for a whole host of stars to break out, and there are a few stars in particular who should be in a great position to take advantage of the situation.
Let's take a look at a few of the stars who could well break out at the upcoming Payback pay-per-view.

Alicia Fox
We start in the Divas division with the woman who looks like challenging Paige for the Divas Championship at Payback.
Alicia Fox came up short against Paige on Raw this past week, but her performance was certainly strong enough to merit a run at the championship heading into the pay-per-view.
Her meltdown after the match also seemed to suggest there is a bit more in Fox vs. Paige than simply a filler match on Raw.
With AJ Lee still out of the picture, it is refreshing to see a new Diva step up to the plate and take it to the champion. Expect her to continue to impress heading into Payback.

Even though he's a champion at the moment, it's fair to say Bad News Barrett could still potentially break out at Payback.
After all, the Intercontinental Championship continues to get a woeful amount of airtime in the WWE, and something needs to change.
He will make a great champion if the WWE give him an opportunity to flex his muscles regularly on TV. The upcoming edition of Raw in the United Kingdom will hopefully give him a nice push in the right direction.
If he is in action at Payback—and he really should be—expect Barrett to do well once again.

There are only so many squash victories you can have before a serious rivalry needs to present itself, and it looks like we are beginning to see that happen now.
The interference of Big E seconds before Rusev was about to destroy "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan on Raw this past week suggests we are heading down a path in which the two monsters will lock horns—probably on the undercard at Payback.
It will be a great opportunity for Rusev to show what he can do in an actual match of some substance.
Expect him to break out in serious style at the event.

He started incredibly strongly as a titleholder, but a lack of TV time left him becoming quite stale and criminally underused.
At Payback, he has a chance to get back on the ladder.
If he can put in a strong showing, probably against Rusev as mentioned in the previous slide, there is a good chance Big E will get back in the frame for gold once again.
He got a nice pop when his music hit on Raw when he made the save on Duggan—that tells you he is still relatively over.
Hopefully, that popularity isn't lost before Payback.

You get the impression something is brewing with The Rhodes Brothers. Could it be about to implode at Payback?
Cody Rhodes is an incredibly talented athlete, and he made a great tag champion alongside his brother, Goldust. However, once that run as champions ended, things drastically went off the boil for the pair.
Could a feud with each other be the answer to their troubles? If so, expect Cody to be the one who causes it. He has plenty of previous experience as a heel and seems to really excel in the role.
If they are in action together at Payback and do split as a result of actions in the ring, Rhodes will be set to break out in serious style. He is too good not to.
